Michael Sam went unclaimed on waivers after his release by the St. Louis Rams on Saturday.

Sam is now to sign with an NFL team's practice squad.

Sam arrived at Rams Park on Sunday for a face-to-face exit meeting with Jeff Fisher. The meeting was postponed a day so Sam could attend Missouri's opening victory over South Dakota State.

Adrian Peterson told Jerry Jones that he would like to play for the Dallas Cowboys at the end of his tenure with the Minnesota Vikings, according to an "Outside the Lines" report.

"Well, I understand, Adrian," Jones told Peterson during the call. "I'd like that, too ... Well, I love your story. I love your daddy's story. I've always respected what you've been about. I've always been a fan of yours."

The telephone call is recounted as part of an expansive "Outside the Lines"/ESPN The Magazine profile of Jones by ESPN senior writer Don Van Natta Jr. that was published Thursday.

As for the Peterson call, Van Natta was in Jones' suite at AT&T Stadium when a friend of Jones' handed the phone to him. Peterson had talked first to a Morgan Stanley money manager who had attended George Strait's final concert on June 7 at AT&T Stadium. After the concert, Jones and several others remained in the suite; Peterson talked with the man, who handed the phone to Jones without saying who was on the line.

"Well, we'll see what we can do, if we can make that happen," Jones, who is also the Cowboys' general manager, told Peterson. "Hmm hmm ... I'd like that, too ... Well, we're talking pig Latin here, but let's see if we can do that ... We're talking pig Latin here, but let's see what we can do about that. OK, Adrian, thanks."

Tommy Kelly has signed a one-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cardinals have been searching for help on their defensive line following the ACL tear to Darnell Dockett.

Kelly tore his own ACL in 2013.

Kelly had 22 tackles and 2.5 sacks in five games last season before getting hurt last year.

Tony Gonzalez admits that he still dreams of winning a Super Bowl and that there is a temptation to sign with a contender.

"The temptation would be there, but I don't know what the gain would be," Gonzalez said, per Bob Glauber of Newsday. "I've always wanted a ring. That's been my main goal as a player over the last 15 years of my career. You're really trying to get that ultimate goal.

"But I'd be a mercenary to come in and get a Super Bowl ring, play with a team for, what, six, seven weeks? And even if I got the ring, it wouldn't be the same as going through the fight with the team from the beginning to the end. I don't think that will happen. The temptation will be there, but I'm 100 percent happy with my decision."

Gonzalez revealed that he's had "teams ask me to come back," but refused to name names before emphasizing that he's "happily retired."

The Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed to sign Brett Keisel for a 13th season.

Keisel had been a free agent since March and had been hoping to eventually re-sign.

The Steelers have looked to become younger on the defensive line by signing Cam Thomas and using a second round pick on Stephon Tuitt.

Keisel turns 36 in September.

Santonio Holmes has signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears while also cutting Eric Weems.

Homes did not look like his former self when on the field in 2013.

The Bears worked out Holmes earlier this month but instead signed Greg Herd at the time.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed Larry English.

English was the 16th overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers.

English was cut in July after failing to deliver on his promise as an outside linebacker.

In Lovie Smith's 4-3 scheme, English will move to defensive end and fight for playing time behind Adrian Clayborn and Michael Johnson.

Rex Grossman has signed with the Cleveland Browns.

Grossman will be reunited with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan.

“Rex is excited to work with Kyle Shanahan again. This is a great fit for him,” agent Drew Rosenhaus said.

The Houston Texans have released Andre Brown.

Brown has been a productive running back during his time with the New York Giants.

Brown was the victim of a numbers game with the Texans.

Bready Quinn has signed with the Miami Dolphins.

The Dolphins have been looking for additional quarterback depth with Matt Moore suffering from a shoulder injury.

Quinn had recently signed a broadcasting deal with Fox Sports.
